Luc SCHMID

Research Associate of Resilient Blue-Green Infrastructures

As part of the FCL Global - Tana project, Luc Schmid investigates ecosystem functions of green and blue infrastructures in the urban environment of Antananarivo by iteratively assessing the relationship between plant traits, distribution, and functions of identified species. Based on this and with the use of different modeling approaches, he plans to quantify and compare ecosystem services of different green-blue urban landscape designs.

Before starting this position, he studied geography and history at the University of Bern in Switzerland. During his studies, he developed a personal interest in the integrative and transdisciplinary assessment of complex human-environment relationships in developing countries. In his Master’s thesis, he analysed mining-related forest disturbances and environmental governance of extractive industries in Madagascar, using various remote sensing techniques. He hopes to apply his acquired knowledge and skills in the FCL project.
