Dr Christoph WAIBEL
Christoph is module coordinator for the “ Powering the City” research module in FCL Global and senior researcher at the Chair of Architecture and Building Systems (A/S) at ETH Zurich, led by Prof. Arno Schlüter. He is also lead developer of the Hive tool – an ETH Innovedum funded Rhino Grasshopper plug-in for early-stage energy-integrated building design.
His research focuses on the development and integration of fast building simulation models (solar simulation, fast fluid dynamics, building energy demand, hybrid surrogate models), multi-energy systems optimisation models, and black-box optimisation algorithms in the architectural and urban design process.
Prior to this, Christoph was a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Building Physics at ETH Zurich led by Prof. Carmeliet, where he also completed his PhD in 2018. Christoph holds an MSc (Dist.) from UCL London in Environmental Design and Engineering, as well as a Dipl.-Ing. in Architecture from the University of Stuttgart.
Christoph has worked as a programmer and 3D constructor for One to One GmbH in Frankfurt (Main), project engineer and building simulation specialist for ifes (institute for applied energy simulation) GmbH in Cologne and in various architectural design firms as intern and student assistant.
