Her research includes Space Syntax analysis, socio-spatial analysis on space use behaviour and space appropriation, space use perception and preference, and space design strategies, bridging various scales from buildings to precincts, neighbourhoods and districts. In FCL 2.0, Michelle worked closely with a team of experts on Dense and Green Building Typologies for three years. The team showcased their research findings in the Architecture Biennale of Venice 2018 and held a public symposium, “Dense and Green Typologies”, with thw Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

Before joining FCL, she was the CIB-HKU Student Chapter president at The University of Hong Kong. Michelle interests include architectural history, socio-spatial studies, Space Syntax, housing, open building and building adaptability and flexibility. She participated in the EPFL research group The Smart Living Lab in Blue Factory, Fribourg/Freiburg, Switzerland, where she drafted the programme of building space flexibility and usability.

Her PhD research studied the Open Building system and individual involvement in the massive residential projects. The research was based on the theories and practice of flexible and adaptable buildings and investigated the diversity of individual users involved in the architectural design and building process and final building performance in their life span. Her works on building flexibility and adaptability were presented in several international conferences and published in some international journals.
