A better designed Singapore, from bicycle paths to sustainability

A Business Insider story on Singapore quotes Prof. Dr Thomas Schroepfer, Director, FCL Global, on improving the city with bicycle paths and future-proofing Singapore from future challenges.

What makes Singapore a well-designed city? And how can the city-state's urban fabric be improved even further in the face of future challenges?

external page A Business Insider story interviewed several urban designers, architects and academics on how Singapore's city design can be both more sustainable and future-proofed from climate change. Those quoted included Dr Liu Thai Ker, architect and former master planner of the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore, and Prof. Dr Thomas Schroepfer, Director of Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) Global.

In the article, Prof. Dr Schroepfer focused on two subjects: how bicycle paths could make Singapore more sustainable and how the city can be designed to prepare for future challenges.

On adding bicycle paths in the city, he said, "Creating bicycle paths is crucial for sustainable cities and would benefit Singapore by reducing traffic congestion, lowering emissions, and improving public health through increased physical activity."

He also mentioned several ways Singapore can prioritise sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience to safeguard against potential problems such as the climate crisis and population growth.
