Research Overture: Agropolitan Territories

2 Jun | The seminar introduces FCL's research on urbanisation and food production in Monsoon Asia, with an "agropolitan" outlook to urbanisation based on the relationship between future cities and future agriculture.

The seminar Agropolitan Territories introduces Future Cities Lab Global's research on urbanisation and food production in Monsoon Asia. This talk is based on the research Agropolitan Territories of Monsoon Asia, which is developing an ‘agropolitan’ outlook to urbanisation based on a deeper relationship between future cities and future agriculture.

The focus of the study is Monsoon Asia, where urbanisation is rapid and intense, and where most of the world’s staple cereals are grown – 90% of the world’s rice, 45% wheat, and 25% maize. The research focuses on cases in China, India and Indonesia. The aim is to contribute to city-making practice through a set of new architectural, urban design and settlement system typologies for the region.

This seminar is the first in the Research Overtures series, which puts the spotlight on new research topics being developed at FCL Global. It is the platform for the team leading the research to articulate their aims, aspirations, challenges and apprehensions, and for participants to help shape the research through dialogue.
