Miya Irawati from the Urban-Rural Systems team at the Future Cities Laboratory programme shared her expertise on the topic of designing public spaces for the future after the COVID-19 global pandemic at two talks: “Public space post pandemic: from design and construction perspectives” on 17 June 2020 and "Urban design vs COVID-19" on 27 June 2020.

The talk “Public space post pandemic: from design and construction perspectives” on 17 June was organised by Pamerindo Indonesia and Indonesia Construction Architecture Network (ICAN). Miya presented on the topic of what needs to be done when redesigning public facilities for the post-pandemic era for a live audience on Zoom as well as Youtube.

The accompanying speakers for the talk with 789 registered participants included:  Iwan Suprijanto , Head of the centre for education, sports and markets facilities and infrastructure development, Ministry of Public Works of Indonesia and Haris Koentjoro, Principal at inPLACE design, an architecture and urban design office in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.  

Miya also spoke at a second talk on 27 June on "Urban design vs COVID-19", which was the first collaborative event between the Alumni of Urban Design Institut Teknologi Bandung (ARKI) and the Indonesian Institute of Urban Designers (IARKI). Miya presented on how to redesign urban public space considering the new normal to an audience of 238 participants. Miya presented with Sibarani Sofian, a senior urban designer and founder of Urban+. He is also won the design competition for Kalimantan, the new capital of Indonesia.
