In many cities, Grand Projets form new centres and often with symbolic architecture, such as the Shanghai Tower in Lujiazui or the Grande Arche in La Defense in Paris. These major urban projects offer more than just additional uses, they are carefully planned development projects that translate social and economic goals and visions into architecture.

Grand projets are major financial investments and are a testing ground for new forms of urban development. They are part of global networks and influence local economic development. Increasing considerably in number and size over the last few years, and they pose many new questions and challenges for the city of tomorrow.

Join Prof. em. Kees Christiaanse and Dr Naomi Hanakata from the The Grand Projet project at the Future Cities Laboratory in the book presentation. The book, The Grand Projet portrays eight case studies and thus helps to better understand major urban projects and the correlation between project and environment, the resulting opportunities and their increasingly important role in shaping our cities. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with Prof. em. Dieter Läpple and Prof. Bruns-Berentelg from the HafenCity University Hamburg.
