Dr Meliha HONIC
Meliha Honics’ research focus lies on enabling a circular economy in the construction sector through blockchain technology, BIM and material passports. She is aiming to find an answer to the following question: How should a blockchain technology-based platform for a circular economy be designed to enable a circular information flow throughout the whole life cycle of a building considering all stakeholders within the AEC industry.

Education
Meliha Honic obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Architecture at Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien). Her Master thesis was about ecological urban densification where BIM and LCA-tools were used to asses the environmental impact of a designed building. Within her PhD at the faculty of Civil Engineering at TU Wien she developed the BIM-based material passport which serves as resources and LCA optimization tool in the design stage of buildings. During and after her PhD she initiated and led several research projects about digitalization of the existing building stock of Vienna as well as BIM-based material passports for the end-of-life stage of buildings, where she was working with partners from the industry and academy.
